KNOW WHICH DOOR

I love my surveillance cameras so much and the intercom that is part of the system.  Friends and family who visit me usually enter my den door.  Strangers come to the front door.  Yesterday one came a knocking.

It is not even necessary to open the door.  I simply press talk on my monitor and ask "May I help you?".  It is great to see them whirl around to find the direction of the voice and they end up staring right into the camera.

The fellow said to me, "I am in this area about twice a year calling on Medicare recipients and need a few minutes of your time."  My polite response was, "I do not have time today so just leave your card on that little table near the door."  "Okay" he says as he stands there writing quite a bit on the card before he puts it on the table and leaves.

Turns out he was a financial consultant and didn't even have his own card.  He had to write his name and phone number on another person's card.  Regardless he was a salesman trying to make me think he was with Medicare.

Did I mention that I love my surveillance system?

  4. It was good of you to answer him. If anyone comes to our door I just don't answer it. :D

  6. Sigh. And technically he wasn't even lying. He no doubt was calling on Medicare recipients. Among others...

  7. Mmm could save a lot of time being able to see who is at the door. I'd need the tv in the bedroom so I wouldn't need to getup to answer the door. Lovely!

  8. Now that is neat. If I didn't have a fenced yard to keep them out I would definitely get that.

  9. Wow- how scary! He might be a scammer or not. But still, what people will do. Thank goodness you had your intercom. I really want to say the photo of your dog on your blog header made me stop because your dog looks so much like my dog. Even more so in the comfy position. Happy weekend, and thanks for visiting my blog. :)

  10. If I didn't have Bob to answer the door, I'd just not bother. We live far up on a dead-end road - not many visitors that we don't know, except tourists who are lost and need directions. That gadget seems like a good security device for you.

  11. Good for you for not letting him in. Weirdos. Even if he was legitimate, that's a heck of a way to introduce yourself.

  13. That is an important piece of equipment. Good for you to protect yourself. He was kind of a scraggly looking salesman.

  14. Ooh I really, really want one. Especially as I am usually in my office which means
down a flight of stairs and through the house, back porch and garage to reach e
    where they are.

  16. He really should cut his hair if he wants to look professional. That is bitchy of me to say so.

  17. Kind of like the scene from "Pulp Fiction", eh?

I guess this has replaced the ever popular door peephole. We usually don't people like that on our street, just people looking to talk to you about God.

  18. My surveillance camera is by Uniden. It was $199 at Walmart for two cameras and one monitor and all the equipment to mount the system.. The outside cameras need to be plugged into AC outlets but the monitor is wireless remote. You can also direct the video to your phone or computer but I never did figure out that part. It is important to mount the cameras under the eaves so they will be protected from the elements. I added two more cameras later and I think they were around $70 each. There are both positive and negative reviews of this system but I am glad to have it and it has served me well for almost three years now. Hope that is helpful.

  19. My husband and I are going to get some kind of system for our house. We're sold on the idea, we're just shopping the companies, especially now that we've lost one of our dogs.
