NOT JUST LASSIE

We have all heard of a missing dog returning home after a length of time or a runaway cat showing back up . Well now we've heard of a rooster coming home. I gave my Rhode Island Red Rooster away several weeks ago and tonight it turned up on the roost here again. Guess we'll just let him stay. They said they could never get him to go in the chicken house anyway.

"LR" Little Rooster only he's big rooster now.

  1. Who would have thought? I guess I have to give more credit to the bird brain.

    1. Tabor, he does have a special girlfriend but he has to fight the other roosters to get to her.

  5. Chickens seem to have a lot of intelligence that we don't give them credit for.

  6. OK, this is a cool story! How far did he travel?

    1. Birdis, he traveled about a half a mile is all. But after being gone so long I didn't ever expect it. And that's a pretty good distance for a rooster

  7. Wow, he must really like the groceries and accommodations. He certainly is a handsome fella. How far did he travel?

    1. Patti, he liked the barn. He didn't always roost in the henhouse because he liked the rafters in the barn. He traveled about a half a mile. I was very surprised to see him back

  8. He must have a GPS up his feathers. BTW they're reprising the show 24 only this time without Jack Bauer. Wouldn't it be funny if the new character's initials were "LR"? ;)

    1. Cube, how can anyone else play the star of 24? But if his initials are LR that will be very funny.

    1. The neighbors were glad for him to leave. The whole time he was there he would not go in the chicken house and he crowed all night.

  14. Awww - he missed you! "Where's my Annie?" I'm glad he gets to stay.

So this is an ignorant question - but did he walk? I mean - they don't really fly, do they???

    1. Lynn, chickens can fly a little bit across the ground. When they're young and not so heavy they can fly fairly well and you have to clip their wings to keep them in the henhouse or the pen.

  15. He was either in hiding over Festive Season in fear of his life...and who could blame him...or...he was out chasing the chicks!

    1. Lee, sadly it was the intent for him to wind up in a stew. I guess he knew. I never kill or cook my chickens. They stay with me until they die of old age. He must have known they're promised a retirement home here

  16. That's brilliant. I've heard of pidgeons coming home to roost but not a chickens or maybe arooster.

    1. Winifred, usually any chicken (hen or rooster) that takes up residence at a new place will stay there especially after a few weeks. I think this was highly unusual

  19. As the saying goes, if you love a little rooster, let him go. If he returns to you, then he is truly yours. ;-)
