(First question of the new year)
Do you depend on the internet for answers to your questions?
I used to drive my friends and family crazy with phone calls for answers to my unending questions. Now I just Google it. My dad told me once that the search was important even though I might not have all the answers in my lifetime. But with the internet, I just might. LOL!
Definitely! I look up just about everything, given the opportunity. Lately I'm trying to improve my knowledge of geography, so I Google Map every city, country, or state that I hear mentioned if I'm not sure where it is. I think I have almost stopped confusing Venice with Vienna. I still don't know where all the American states are, though - you guys have so many!
ReplyDeleteSpark, I am in Oklahoma, smack dab in the middle of the US. It is called living in the Heartland. Also I live on Grand Lake Of The Cherokees. Google that when you have time.
ReplyDeleteSure do, me and google are really good friends:)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love YouTube for demonstrations on how to repair things
DeleteMr. Google is a best friend of mine. What a wonder kid he is! I visit him regularly and very often and would be lost without him. What once would have taken hours and hours by going through encyclopedia after encyclopedia or other methods...or hours at the library...Mr. Google is right there at my fingertips. I love him!
ReplyDeleteI responded to your comment to my latest blog, Annie...I find it very difficult to believe you've not heard of most of the people I mentioned in my story!!! Check them out on Google...I'm sure you will discover you most certainly have heard of them!! :)
I thought it was Ms Google:-) yes I will Google some of those names and refresh my memory.
DeleteGoogle it--all the time!
ReplyDeleteA couple years ago I bought a new dictionary but I don't think I have cracked it open more than a couple times. And that is the tip of the iceberg. Certainly wouldn't want to be an encyclopedia publisher these days.
Olga, Ron loved books. He loved encyclopedias. I kept trying to tell him we didn't need them but he couldn't go to a yard sale without buying the set if it was for sale. Then he still ask me questions and I google the answers
DeleteI am eternally thankful that I've lived this long to have all that plethera of
ReplyDeletegreat information at my fingertips. When I think of all the hours I used to
spend going to the library, I realize I really do have extra hours in the day.
Good wishes for a grand New Year.
Manzanita, I am with you on that. I never dreamed such a day.
DeleteHahaha I should have used spell check (that great dictionary at hand) for the
ReplyDeletespelling of plethora.
I use Google on a daily, even hourly basis. Also to help with memory burps.
ReplyDeleteJan, I do too. I find it amazing
DeleteSome questions.
ReplyDeleteNot questions about ethical behaviour.
Pure factoids? Oh yes. The lazy way, but I am guilty.
Elephant's child, why not ethical question?
DeletePeople almost get insulted when you ask them something. Most people will tell you, "Why don't you just Google it?!" I know I have that option and oftentimes that's just what I do, but I don't always want to think "internet before people" when I'm in the middle of a live conversation with someone. Funny how things are a-changing, my friend. PS - I found your blog again. I'm finally re-adding everyone to my blogroll, since I see we're all getting back into writing more often.
ReplyDeleteIleana, it looks like a lot of us are getting back to blogging. I've been very sporadic.

DeleteI am a fiend about checking for things on the Internet. We have all the information we will ever need at our finger tips. Love it.
ReplyDeletePatti, since we haven't had this all our lives do you think younger folks take it for granted?
DeleteAS a former information specialist I caution people about looking for information on the Internet. Just make sure you know the origin of the site. NIH or Web MD is certainly safer than the many health ads out there. Sources, that is the key and always get a second opinion.
ReplyDeleteTabor, I know we need to watch out for Wikipedia

ReplyDeleteas with all media, I google and then I fact check several times , even then, as we all learned days later, something that was fact checked and not found-THEY SAID, was found days later to be 100% true.
believe little to none of what you hear and only a tiny bit of what you see:)
Sonny, fact checking is always good
DeleteWhat did we do before the Internet? I'm careful about the source, but it's a quick and easy method to get some answers.
ReplyDeleteBarb, before the internet we went to the library. I still go sometimes to smell the books
DeleteYes! Sad, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteRiot kitty, it is a fact of life and the future.
DeleteOh wat will i do without google !
ReplyDeleteI definitely check with the internet first, but if it's important, I will go to the library and do some good old fashioned research.
ReplyDeleteOh yes - I Google something daily. The latest: can you ride out a sinus infection without taking antibiotics? The answer: yes. (Although I'm questioning the advisability of that now.)
ReplyDeleteSadly yes. I used to have loads of fun doing my research at the library, but now, the bulk of it, when needed, is done on Google or Bing.
ReplyDeleteI Google everything. I have always been the person that asks, "Why". Now I can get my fill and not have to bother anyone!
ReplyDelete1 hour once per week isin't enough time to ask...
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the question. If it's a factual thing then yes the internet and dear old Google, but if it's more of a moral or ethical question, then I ask my dear old partner.
