AMUCK OR AMOK

Water is back on and I am catching up. The electrician can't bury the line until the ground is a bit drier but at least everything is back up and running. Meanwhile I did the stupidest thing. Since I couldn't do laundry or wash dishes, I decided to burn. Only after I got a roaring fire going did I realize the wind was blowing hard and I didn't have any water if it got out of control. Thankfully the ground and grass were still wet. Ron used to say that I was running amok when he found me. Looks like I am back to it. Plus when I was raising my son and daughter on my own  my dad would say that we all needed adult supervision. My children have grown into responsible adults but can't say the same for their mom.

  1. Ha ha, glad you have water again! I think we all have mad moments what ever our age. I tend to have mine in the car, sometimes I think I'm indestructible. :D

  2. So often the child teaches the parent.
I had that same frightening feeling when I was a very young child.
My girlfriend and I were going to build a camp fire and didn't
take the wind into account. It was on the edge of town and no
water available. The firemen came and had to put out the fire
with wet gunny sacks. That was soooo many years ago and I'm
positive there is much more sophisticated fire-fighting tools now
but I remember the lecture from my parents and the embarrassment
    I felt.

    1. Manzanita, a few years ago my grandchildren were supposed to be watching the fire when the oldest went into the house and began texting. Later the younger ones were screaming fire fire and our neighbors field next to our house was ablaze. I could just see it happening again :-(

  3. Ah they joys of a second childhood - isn't that how we progress? Thankfully no damage was done and things are getting backto "normal", whateveer that may mean.

  4. But it all turned out OK - that's what counts. I don't think anyone would change you, especially your kids. You're so fun!

And you made me think of this clip from the movie Hocus Pocus - one of my favorite movie scenes in which Sarah Jessica Parker says Amok amok amok! or maybe Amuck amuck amuck!:

  5. oh mercy, I was visualizing that situation as I read your post... now, thats something like I'd do. are we amok/amuck twins by chance lol.

I also raised 2 kids thru their preteen to adult years and I can assure you- we raised each other in many ways.. I'm quite certain of the fact that God had his hand in it all to be sure at least 1 of us at any given time remained rational and reasonable to things didnt get out of hand.

Just imagine if we were neighbors the mischief we could get into.. now, who would get us out would be the question:-)

    1. Sonny, you could never live next door to me because my whole farm looks like it belongs to a person running amok. It would drive you nuts.

  7. Well, that was a bit scary. We all do this, so don't be too hard on yourself. I think when we are older we just want to get through a list of stuff and forget that we need to analyze things and put them in order and think about what other tools we might need to do whatever it is we are going to do.

    1. Tabor, I should never start a fire without having shovels water and the tractor running nearby. Although the ground was wet the structures around were dry and the fire easily could have blown into one of the structures. I think I learned a valuable lesson if I can just remember it :-)

  10. My Inner Child is frequently the healthiest and happiest part of me. So far I, and everyone else, have survived the 'not thinking it through' days. Glad to hear you have too.

  11. Sounds like you are slowly getting your creature comforts back. I'm not a good chess player so I don't always think things through either. No harm, no foul is always a great outcome.

  12. I am glad that you have water.
Running amok was an expression one of my coworkers used a lot and I was new to America and now I know what it means.
    Take care of yourself.

    1. Munir, it's good to know what it means just so long as you don't practice it :-)

  13. Well, I for one have never used that expression and maybe heard it in a movie once. I'm sheltered, I know...and I'm thankful to have friends like you to enlighten me. :)

I'm so happy things didn't get too hot at your place, my friend, and that you are OK. Hugs from Florida...
