TURN THE CORNER

I came in from bringing in the newspaper one early morning and noticed the light in the stairwell illuminated this setting. I always think of this as Ron's corner. His little collection of ducks, the barometer and all of the many keys that are needed around the place. Its funny how we often fail to notice the special corners in our homes. I have a lot of little groupings of things that were special to Ron, to me and to my parents and to my children. Do you have such places in your home?

  1. I do have some special things that I keep in my office. I like looking at some shadow boxes with my children and grandchild's baby clothes in them.

  2. Yes, I have my little 'shrines,' reminders of good times and a happy marriage. Your picture looks like Ron saying hello, he's watching over you.

  3. I do have collections of folk art and knick-knacks from various trips scattered around. Most of my others are photographs on the walls from things I have done with my loved ones.

  4. Kay, those shadow boxes are such a nice idea. Of course you would have them!

  5. Olga, that is exactly what I though when I walked in the house and saw it illuminated! "Little shrines" is a good description.

  6. Tabor, I now have some scattered art from my trip to Alaska! Biggest trip I ever took. LOL

  7. My house is a sort of museum of hobbies and interests from the past. Whenever I got good at something, it was time to arrange a display and move on.

  8. That's a bittersweet post. I like the photo, as well.

As far as remembrances go, I'm a collector. I keep everything and there are some things I can't throw out. Lately, I'm writing about events rather than keeping something physical because I'm running out of room ;)

  9. I have a small tableau of things from my mother. I think my house is mostly decorated with gifts, so I'm surrounded by thoughts of people's love. I'm not really a collector, except maybe of memories.

  10. What a beautiful, wistful picture.

  11. Oh yes. The memory triggers are all through our house. Many of them are beautiful, some quirky but the memories they evoke are invisible to any but those 'in the know'.

  12. That really is a lovely spot.
Have to say we don't have any special places. I'm such a messy cat I have stuff piled all over the place. One of these days.....

  13. Right now all my corners are crammed with sentimental stuff. But just having Aunt-Besse's chair there always makes me feel ok.

  14. Yep...too much so! I need to do a major de-cluttering....one of these days....when I get kicked out of the Procrastinators' Club!

  15. I really like that corner and if it makes you smile and feel warm, it is a keeper. I have mementos all over from friends or family who have passed so I guess my whole house is a "corner". It also helps that I have a tiny house.

  16. I'm so glad you have that spot to smile at when you pass it. Lovely.

  17. That's very sweet! I have a few shelves over the TV that accumulate gifty knick-knacks and greeting cards that we don't want to hide away in a drawer. I don't pay much attention to that space now, but if I lost Ken I'm sure that I'd find many heart-twisting memories there.

  18. That is sweet...not yet, but we have only lived here for a year.
