WHAT IS HEALING

Question Of The Week, 3-23-15

What makes you feel better, revenge
or forgiveness?

I once read an article that said getting revenge is better for your health than forgiving.

Think of:
terrorists
traitors
pedophiles
corrupt politicians
rapists
thieves
bullies
cheaters

Then put on them the faces of people you know and love.

  1. I just read a quote that says "Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got."

I've had to forgive some bastards in my time, still do, and I have once or twice tried the revenge route, and it's never worked, maybe at the moment in time, but it doesn't last, whereas forgiveness does.

  2. Surely it depends on the offense.

  3. I believe in karma and I will forgive if only for my own benefit.

  4. Not revenge. However tempting, it isn't a healing route for me.
    Forgiveness - or stepping away.

  6. I am basically a forgiver and find it to be so very freeing. I can't see where revenge brings any relief, it just lowers us to their level and the downward spiral begins. It is what has kept the middle East in turmoil for thousands of years

  8. Revenge is sweet, very sweet. Just after my ex moved to North Carolina tropical storm Lisa hit the coastal town where he lives. I laughed for days over that one. God does have a sense of humor. After the heartbreak and pain that the state of Massachusetts inflicted on my family, now that my son is safely back in the South, I have been rather enjoying the weather forecasts this year...sorry, revenge is sweet. Will I forgive? Probably someday. But right now it is balm for my soul.

  9. I think the best thing for that people on that list is to send them all to an island and let them take care of themselves.

However, I believe in forgiveness but with no more chances. But no forgiveness the people who commit heinous acts against children.

  10. Hi there, I have not heard of the Hoover House, but I will look it up and see what I can find out. There are lots of places I'm going to be checking into.

  11. Revenge is never sweet and I do not pursue that direction. It takes real hatred and I prefer to walk away unless a crime had been committed and then my revenge would be to turn them in. Forgiveness is healing to the forgiver, for sure.

  12. Forgiveness, I think, is much better. Interesting - my ex-mother-in-law passed away Saturday - I heard the news on Monday morning. I felt a little pang of regret when I saw the text from a family friend. My husband was her only son and the light of her life - she did not like me at all and made my life miserable. Sigh. Thinking of those times makes me sad - it's not the reason we got divorced, but at the time I thought of it as kind of a bonus that I didn't have to deal with her anymore, but I let it all go at some point - years ago. Your question made me think that through - thanks, GA.

Revenge is never the answer, I think. Let the universe take care of that sort of stuff. It always does.

  15. It may be better for my health , but not for my soul. If I remember, I forgive. LOL

  16. Not proud of the times I took revenge; I doubt they were good for my health. Still, maybe there is some sort of scale for which revenge works. For example I wasn't sorry to see Bin Laden go down; I found him unforgivable.

  17. Trust broken is trust never regained.

I may act civil towards you for the great good, but you'll never step foot in my inner circle again.

  19. I'm not sure that I truly prescribe to 'revenge' as an overt act I would pursue but let me be quite honest here... I sure do relish and enjoy it when someone whom I have issues with gets their dues in whatever form it may come in!!

  20. I once heard a quote something like: "Holding a grudge is like drinking poison every day and hoping the other person will get sick." So, yeah. That.

  21. Forgiveness is sometimes so difficult to accomplish, but hate can only destroy ourselves.

  22. My life rule is to never do anything to someone you don't want done to you. If Someone deserves punishment, Karma will dish it out for them sooner or later. I don't want Karma after me- You get what you give.

  23. I can't imagine how revenge would be better...maybe because you get something of your chest and don't hold it in?? I personally prefer forgiving....it surely makes me feel better and I figure god will deal with the rest

  24. Forgiveness every time. Revenge my be sweet for a while but it will not set you free. You can only be free if you forgive. It doesn't mean you will forget - some things you will never forget.
