SHORT STORY LONG

My freezer door was left open and some things thawed a bit.  Reading about such an occurrence I learned that most food will be alright but fish should be discarded for the sake of safety. This meant a package of salmon was going to the cats.

I took one unopened packet of the salmon out to their dinner table, cut it open and quickly broke it into six pieces.  Each cat grabbed a piece and it was obvious they loved it a lot.  I could not wait to give them this treat again the next day.

Instead of opening the packet at their dinner table, I cut the packet open in the house and put it in a paper bowl with six pieces already cut up for them.  Little did I anticipate the aroma reaching them before I got there.  Suddenly I had six cats climbing me like a tree and clinging to be as they fought for the salmon.  I dropped the bowl and ran for my life.

There is more salmon but it is going to be a while before we try this again.

Forgive me but I am on a doodle kick and had fun illustrating this cat attack.

    1. LISA, sadly they have to live outside in the barn. They do a good job of keeping the mice away as well as devouring salmon. Lol

  4. They, like dogs, can smell fish right away. Think how strong it smells to us and then you realize how just a whiff gets them going! Sorry about that loss of food.

  5. Laughing out loud. I had one cat climb me like a tree and it smarts.
Be careful however of frozen veggies. They actually get dangerous the quickest. I learned that when I worked the phones a the power company after a hurricane.

    1. ARKANSAS PATTI, thanks for the tip. I better reject the vegetables. Yes it's just a good thing I had on a heavy coat when the cats attacked me.

  8. So very familiar. One of ours climbs my leg when he hears the knife being sharpened. And the knife is never, ever as sharp as his mountain climbing pinions.

    1. ELEPHANTS CHILD, I wonder why the knife sharpener makes the cat go crazy?

  13. That is hilarious! Once that first cat made his move none of the others were going to lose out. I'm really surprised you weren't scratched up real bad.

    Love the doodle...

    1. ALAN GINOCCHIO, it is indeed a miracle that I wasn't scratched up. My face was really the only thing exposed and luckily the talons missed the skin.

  14. Six cats? Ouch. You must've been scratched to pieces. I've been jumped by cats and know how much those claws can hurt.
