  3. I get along with them just fine. How? I try never to offer my advice unless asked and a few words of praise goes a long way too. LOL

  7. Depends what part of the family you're talking about. My brothers and I are different as night and day, and we get along as long as politics don't come up. They are gun totin' Tea Partiers, and I am a mild-mannered independent with a somewhat unpredictable voting record that drives them crazy.

I do get along great with our own kids and all in-laws. Good food and wine goes a long way to smooth the path.

    1. KERRY, my family is strongly divided politically but we agree to disagree and don't discuss politics which makes our gatherings much nicer.

  8. Don't go there is a good title. I do love my brother and sisters, but we are better at arms length than we are up close. The real support that I've had has come from the communities of close friends that I have built into my life.

    1. LISA, I too am very thankful for this loving community I have discovered. Before rons death I did not know these people were out there and I wish we could have known them together.

    1. BRITE MIST, I was fortunate growing up that my grandparents, very different in socio-economic background and politics still managed to get along and teach us all valuable lessons.

Yes, I do get along with my family. There is an aunt that doesn't reply to my e mails but I am not sure why. Other than my aunt (I do not know what I did) I don't have any problems. My family is quite awesome.

    1. DITCHINGTHEDOG, I have some relatives who absolutely will not email and that's okay. Maybe she would just like a phone call from you.

  14. Yes and no. At the present time, the bulk of my immediate family is a major pain in the buttocks.

Now relatives, that is a different animal all together. I get along with them in two distinct ways:

1} I like them and I enjoy talking to them whenever we get together.

2} Out of sight and out of mind, and the longer I don't talk/see them, the happier I am.

  15. Generally. But I do avoid quite a few of them.

My favorite relatives aren't blood relatives, which goes to show that family goes way beyond DNA. For me, anyhow.

I haven't spoken to my dad or my siblings since my mom passed away five years ago. The whole lot of them were at the root of incredible anxiety for me for most of my adult life. Not speaking to them has greatly improved my mental health.

  17. For some unexplained reason, my post didn't appear.

My family is thick as thieves except without the stealing. We're a close family.

If you get a duplicate, please forgive.

  18. Look, you stirred everyone up again.
My youngest is always angry at/with me, and my eldest is very glad I am in her life. That's about it.

  20. I do get along with my family, but find that some of them dwell too much in the past (hurts that didn't heal well, etc.)

  21. I live far enough away from my conservative relatives, and they are really moderates pretending to be against socialist government, that we can get along for the short times I visit. My other blood relatives are very close to me. My son is the toughest call as he has some bad habits that I am hoping he will outgrow soon!! But we avoid arguing in front of others.

  22. I have very little family left...there really is only me. I'm the last of the Mohicans.

My late brother had three children. One nephew and I get on, but he and his family live elsewhere...a distance from where I live so our physical paths cross infrequently. We communicate via Email and social media; and phone calls.

His brother is a bit of a loner. He hardly speaks to anyone! He only rings me about once in a decade!

Their sister wiped me out of her social calendar about 10 years ago for reasons known only to her. But I think if I won the jackpot in the Lotto her attitude would change. She could be in for a shock! ;)

  23. I like most of my blood family and my in-laws...they are far and away the kindest, hardest working, and most honest people I know. Except for a few crazy libs in the mix, we are all of the same political bent.

  24. Some of them yes, in fact all of them apart from my mother, although even with her she probably doesn't realise we don't get along.

  25. I'm getting so old, Annie - I guess now they must get along with me! Just kidding, but age does bring with it a bit of respect - all good.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I get along with most of them and the others I can be civil too. I feel fortunate because I know that isn't the case for everyone...

  27. I get along with my kids pretty good, most of the time, sibs are more irritating.
Being 4th in the line-up I got bullied alot as a child, n was very quiet, until grown.

  29. I love them and try to be a better mother, Grandma, MIL etc. I don't always get it right but as long as the love is there it usually works out.

  30. I do, thank goodness!
