DIET QUARANTINE

Tuesday my sister will arrive and will stay with me for 5 days.  During that time she is going to plan our meals and our exercise routine.  I moaned and groaned that it was my wish the doctor would just put me in the hospital for a week and monitor my food intake so I could get my weight loss going.  My sister had a light bulb moment and decided to she would come to my home and do that for me as well as for herself (though I have never thought of her as overweight even once.)

I do not plan to even go near the kitchen one time during that five days.  My biggest problem with my hip and my heart disease is caused by my excess weight.  Hopefully this will get me on the right path.  I have tried everything else.

  2. I was getting a cookie at work the other day and a tall, very thin printing client walked by. I offered her a cookie and she smiled and shook her head no. I grumbled to my boss that I'll bet that woman eats celery and drinks water for a snack. :)

Good luck - I echo Sandie. That is wonderful that the two of you can support each other like that. But I hope you get more than that sparse looking meal in the photo!

  5. Awesome...your own personal trainer to get you started. Where would we be without our sisters watching our back.

I've tried every diet there is and have lost weight on all of them...but then I fall off the wagon and the weight creeps back on. With my family history of diabetes and heart disease I really can't afford not to smarten up. Maybe I'll give my sister a call ;)

  6. It's great that you have your own personal trainer. Support helps in all endeavors.

My husband has lost a lot of weight on a diet given to him by his doctor. It involves skipping carbs and eating protein, fat, and certain fruits & veggies.

He has battled his weight for much of his life, but it took a diagnosis of pre-diabetes to scare him enough to stick with it.

  7. It is much harder for women and easier to cheat when you live alone. Just do not buy any unhealthy snack food and you will not be tempted that way. If you crave sweets allow yourself two small pieces of something at the end of the day and take 10 minutes to eat them. Prepare for set backs and IGNORE them. Exercise will be the biggest reward and the hardest to begin and maintain, but put on some lovely music or a great movie and push on. I am so in support of this for you!! Super woman, you can do it!

    1. TABOR, no shops in our town but a quick stop and family dollar. When I get a craving they only have junk food unless I drive miles away for healthy food.

  8. There is nothing like sisterly support. And all the great chats you'll have will be a wonderful distraction. Good luck, Annie! I know you can do it! And don't forget to find something to reward yourself with - maybe a super glossy magazine or a pedicure or something. Don't forget to celebrate what an amazing woman you are.

  10. That is so above and beyond. What a cool sister but you need to talk her into staying three weeks. It takes 21 days to form a habit--especially a good one. Still, that should get you on the right track. Does she hire out?
Good luck and kudos to your sister.

  11. It all gets easier after a week, Annie. Having a buddy is especially effective. You know I have had a heart attack and also my family has history of diabetes. I am determined to keep myself as healthy as possible. It helps that my husband is also interested in a healthy lifestyle. I'll be thinking of you - good luck! Hugs to you and Sis.

  14. How lovely of her. It's so hard changing your eating pattern but it can work.
I try to drink more water as I read that often we think we're hungry but really we're thirsty. Another tip I read was to forget the clean plate phobia that lots of us were brought up with. It's not a sin to leave food. Honestly! Now I found that very hard.

I tried WeightWatchers as my thyroid problem caused me to gain weight & it did work but I didn't lose weight quickly. I also need to exercise but hate the gym so I try to swim at least twice a week.

    Best of luck Annie!

  17. i changed my eating habits a few years back and went from being down right obese (i looked 7 months or so pregnant), to moderately overweight. I lost 50 pounds, but did allow myself treats when i wanted. I was a bit of work, but I enjoy good food. There was an amount of exercise that might be a problem with your hip

  18. Boot camp should be fun with company for you! Best luck getting thru your week! I haven't had enough time to cook n eat this week. Luckily I get paid to exercise- but now my back is killing me! Been off-line all week, will return later. Off to work again now-

    Hello Annie
Well it looks like everyone has said it for me - it is hard to begin with and yes there are 'why bother' thoughts ( even on WW, I can vouch for that). I'm still battling - notice the loose tops and over shirts in my photos - and will until the Dr has a happy look on his face. He's the one pushing me - I'd have given in years ago.

I'm sure the love will be the influencing factor in your sisters visit - and planning. If it's not in the house you can't eat it.

Also look at ways you can do incidental exercise round the farm. Move things around so you have to go further to get them - use a barrow to move things ( means your using more energy). Once your hip has less stress on it things will become a lot easier. Walk around bits of your property and talk to Ron at the same time.
    Take care
    Cathy

  21. That is really sweet! I wish you luck. I just can't even buy junk food, ever - or I'll eat it all in one sitting. Then, of course, I come home and wonder why I didn't buy chips...
