JUST THE FACTS

Okay I guess I have to face the truth. The pain is returning. The orthopedic doctor and my PCP say it is not going to get any better without the hip replacement. At least I had Tuesday, Wednesday and half of Thursday pain free. Next stop surgery consult. Excuse me while I cry a bit:(

Meanwhile I have been reading all about hip replacement surgery and what to expect after.  One interesting thing is that sex four weeks after the surgery is among the physical therapy list. Now I just have to find out  where I get my partner and will Medicare cover that?

  2. I am so sorry that pain invited itself back into your life.
    Good luck with the surgery.
And I love the idea of a medicare sponsored partner and sex for therapy. Better than quite a number of the exercises I have been put through.

  3. I am so sorry, but i know a few people who have done well with this surgery, but the idea of sex as therapy has never been mentioned to me...

  4. So sorry you are having to accept plan B. I know people who have done so well with the surgery. The secret seems to be in being religious with the therapy. Wasn't aware sex was part of it:))

  5. OMG...so glad you still have your sense of humor as this will get you through the next challenge level. Lets see...can you pick how they look? I am so sorry that you have to go through the surgery, as many of my friends are now doing. The good news is that this surgery has improved immensely over the years. It is so much better. Be patient with your healing process. We are all cheering for you...does this mean there will be a sex tape?

  8. I am so sorry about your pain. I was hoping that surgery was not the only option.
About intimacy or even sex, I had heard that it can be an answer for some emotional set backs, but pain?

  9. That seems like an extreme effort just to get sex.

  10. Sex as therapy ... I want some of that!

Praying for you to go through surgery.

I have cared for many people who have had hip replacments and they felt tremendous relief even upon waking up from surgery. Yes, there is the pain for the surgery but that awful ache will be gone.

  16. So sorry that the injections did not work! I know people who have had the surgery and swear by it. They are completely pain free! I hope this goes smoothly (I know it will). The post surgical therapy list sounds fun! (Rob)

  17. Was hoping the injections would do the trick but life is too short to live it in pain if you don't have to.

That's too bad. I hope the surgery is a success and cures you once and for all.

  19. Uggh.

I do know that they've made fantastic strides in hip replacement surgery/products. Friend of mine had one about four years ago and she's better than new.

Good luck and I'm sure Medicare will pay for that type of therapy. :D

  20. Hey Grannie Annie...a friend of mine had his hip done about three or so years ago...and he swears it was the best thing he'd ever done. He was back playing golf again in no time at all.

I guess sex therapy is claimable...if it isn't, don't let it put you off! (I thought you were going to say you'd have to find a partner!! lol)

Take care...shed the tears...and then you'll feel good again. Don't be scared. :)

  21. They are so much better at that surgery than they used to be! An old friend had to keep getting the hip done again n again! Finally they used better parts. Even a few days is joyous without chronic joint pain.

At least you won't have an angry partner waiting a month!

  22. Ha! Your last comments made me laugh. Maybe I should get to it for preventative reasons. lol

Hope you feel pain free soon and I know plenty of people who've had the surgery and are sooo thankful for it today.

  23. Oh no!!! So sorry to hear that.

You know - Jane Fonda had hip replacement surgery. And my friend Susan had it - she bounced back pretty quickly. It might be the miracle you've been waiting for.

What a good idea - sex as physical therapy!

  24. Darling Annie have a good cry. It's a b----r. However all the people I know who have had hip ops were better for it and they - the ops - improve all the time.

  25. I love your sense of humor ...I hope and pray you a speedy recovery Granny.

  26. Darn it. My step-dad went through a hip replacement a couple of years ago. It went quite well, but I'm sure he would have rather avoided it.

The sex instruction is probably the government or insurance company trying to reduce expenses. "Why give patients expensive physical therapy when we can tell them to have sex instead? Yeah, that sounds legit."

  27. You poor thing. I have no idea what a hip replacement involves except what I saw on TV with the husband of one of those housewives shows. I can look it up if necessary, but he was up and about in no time and he felt terrific afterwards.

  28. Only good reports from friends who have had the surgery.

I am afraid Medicare wouldn't help but maybe blogger friends' donations:)

  29. Oh my gosh! Seriously? I should think that would hurt like the dickens.

I'm so sorry you're going to have to go through this, Annie. I was told I have osteoporosis in my hip. I guess it's something I'll have to watch too.
