ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

Question Of The Week 9-7-14

WHAT THINGS DO YOU BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO GO TO WAR OVER?

24 comments:

  1. Not a lot.
Stopping oppression. And I would likve to be certain that the oppressed would be better off after the fighting is over.
Not religion, not money (or oil).

  2. Yes, oppression of a group of people. Of course, going to war to defend one's country from invasion.

  3. I want to say nothing. I don't know if I totally believe that, but it is what I want to say.

  4. Acts of aggression toward our citizens or boundaries. When a country that is the victim of aggression requests our help. Other than that, there really isn't a ground to go to war.

  5. I would like to say Nothing, but it seems inevitable.

  6. I fell totally disillusioned with
'the war to end all wars' mentality. There is no answer for me.

  9. I still haven't figured that out, because I know I'd never be brave enough to go. I have to just admire and respect those who do.

Definitely not greed, and I'd have to agree with you on that one.

  10. I'd like to say nothing. Surely as smart as man is we can think of another way.
I guess if a foreign army comes stomping down my street, I'd think differently.

  11. My freedom or that of my children.

  12. To protect my family and my country, and I would do it in a heart beat.

  13. Defending of a homeland, stopping Genocide, Aiding those who can't defend them selves, or to survive.

Of course, Rambo just wanted payback, n the Terminator wanted to change the future outcome...

I've been against War in general since Viet Nam.

  17. Granny Annie: You didn't put a name to your response.

  18. War doesn't achieve anything, we know this from history. So I would say nothing too.

  19. I have deleted all my responses because your answers need no further comment. I have a bunch of brilliant blogger friends and, sad to say, war will probably always be necessary.

  20. This is really, really hard. I'd like to say, when people are being oppressed. However, if you don't go in carefully, with true understanding you could make it worse. Iraq comes to mind. I guess I just don't know, other than to protect ourselves.

I dont think any of us here would say war was necessary - it those who think it is who are the problem.

We remember our mothers who told us 'to leave them alone to sort it out amongst themselves' but unfortunately leaving others to fight their own wars doesn't always work out the way we want it to - for 'us' or those who were being 'sorted out'. The agressor is always out there somewhere.
