TAPS ON YOUR SHOES

Question Of The Week June 2, 2014

WHAT CRAZY FAD DO YOU REMEMBER FROM YOUR TEENS?

TAPS ON YOUR SHOES, IVY LEAGUE CAPS, ORANGE OR YELLOW SLACKS, ELVIS HAIR CUTS, ETC.?

28 comments:

  1. Mini skirts--a fad that has not gone away entirely, but it certainly has from my closet.

  2. platform shoes for men - i hated those

  3. Wearing Daddy's oversize white dress shirt and a pair of jeans.

  4. My brother, a few years older, had a duck tail hair cut and I remember having a poodle skirt when I was in about 2nd grade. (Wish I had kept it).

  5. The tightest designer jeans on the planet ("painted" on...if you could breathe they were too loose) and 4" clogs in the winter...over ice. I don't know how I didn't break my back or cut off my circulation, but we all did it. Oh and let's not forget the smell of those home RAVE perms all the girls had to have because straight hair was out. Good times. lol

  6. Annie,

I think this says it all.

"I want a zoot suit with with a reet pleat
And a drape shape, and a stuff cuff
To look sharp enough to see my Sunday gal"

    HER:
"You want a reef sleeve with a right stripe
And a rare square, so the gals will stare
When they see you struttin' with your Sunday pal."

"You wanta look keen so your dream will scream
"You don't look like the same beau"
So keen that she'll scream, "Here comes my walkin' rainbow"

    HIM:
"So make a zoot suit with a reet pleat
And a drape shape, and a stuff cuff
To look sharp enough to see my Sunday gal

    Now, what you want, baby?"

    HER:
"I want a brown gown with a zop top
And a hip slip, and a laced waist
In the sharpest taste to see my Sunday man."

"A scat hat and a zag bag
And a slick kiss, so the other chicks
Will be jealous when I'm with my Sunday fan."

  7. Ummm...smoking pot behind the church bus.

  8. My high school principal was talking to a couple of us in the school lobby when a boy streaked by wearing only sneakers. She put her arm on my shoulder and asked, "Did I just see what I thought I saw?"

I remember replying in the affirmative and she took off after the stupid kid.

Platform shoes, hiphuggers, and bell bottom pants may have been bad, but they didn't freak everyone out like a streaker.

  9. Platform shoes. For me as well as for the men. And jeans which could only be done up by lying down and using a pair of pliers.

  10. bell bottoms and hip huggers

  11. saddle shoes and penny loafers...

  12. I remember a lot of those - remember the Twiggy look?

  13. When I was in the 8th grade, all the girls were wearing these navy raincoats and I wanted one so much. So my mom got me a raincoat for my birthday, but it was Hot Pink! And she got me a hot pink umbrella to match. Oh my - I had to wear it, but it was terrible at the time. :)

  14. The Stomp...the Twist...to name just two!

  15. Oooh so many things from the Twist to Kraft jackets, bell bottoms and tie dye t-shirts, granny dresses and ironed straight hair. The 60s were fun colorful years with great music.

Oh Annie I remember rolling my jeans up and wearing green and shocking pink fluorescent socks and full skirts with petticoats underneath that we stiffened with sugar water lol
Still wear Capri / pedal pushers in the summer!

Mini skirts were never a candidate for my closet. I was the preacher's kid.

    Changes in the wind
Have I got a story there. My bell bottom pants got caught in the motorcycle peg and I fell off the motorcycle and ended up being dragged through an intersection when the light changed.

    Brite Mist
Oh yes, I remember those shoes on the guys. Did you strut when you wore them?

    Tabor
Now that was a cool look:)

    Jeanie
Lots of people are looking for those poodle skirts now. I wonder if anyone still wears a duck-tail hair cut?

    Scarlet
I would imagine that like my daughter and her friends, the higher you could get that hair, the happier you were.

    Nancy
Only you....lol Would you believe I just mailed Ron's dad's zoot suit to his brother in Virginia? Now that was a crazy piece of clothing for a guy.

    Lisa
I did a lot of smoking behind the church bus, but not smoking POT. You're going to Hell for sure. lol

How funny! I always wondered how people who chase streakers would grab them when they caught them.

    Elephant's Child
Sometimes I have to lay down to zip my jeans now. lol But, I don't have to use pliers yet. Why did we all love those platform shoes so much?

    oklhdan
That was the hippie look. Did you have a flowered shirt too?

    Brighid
My sister said a penny in her loafers first thing. Yep I remember both of those.

    Chatty Crone
I remember the twiggy look but there was never a chance for me to follow that other than the haircut.

    Lynn
How sad for you. My mother did that stuff all the time. I desperately wanted an accordion for my birthday and got a glockenspiel instead. At least I didn't have to carry it around with me.

    Lee
The Mashed Potato Too....any old dance that we can do....Let's dance!

    Pat MacKenzie
Tie dye t-shirts,granny dresses and ironed straight hair...sounds like my granddaughter today.

    cranethie Cathy
Those petticoats were the ultimate. The more we could wear and the stiffer we could make them, the happier we were. What were we thinking? I called my capri pants pedal pushers the other day and my grandchildren looked at me like I was insane. lol

  19. Easy one: Flower Power, Hip-huggers, n bell-bottoms. Far-out n Groovy Man! Brady Bunch, Gilligan, Stooges, Marx Bros, Beatles-
Pogo-sticks, Hula Hoops, n Frisbees. All men with long hair, except the squares-

  20. Four of us used to go through a cupboard door in the girl's cloakroom and sit in the dark amidst smelly gas pipes and just chew the fat and feel really grown up.
    Don't ask me why!

  21. I used to dress like a By City Roller. They probably mean nothing outside the UK, but I dressed just like this, for a while. Sigh.

  22. Sorry that should say "Bay"

  23. Shopping at used clothing stores. Then wondering why the super-bleach cleaned jeans were suddenly falling apart.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shirts and sweaters with bat-wing sleeves. The extra fabric would bunch up in my armpits under a parka, but I wore them anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Snaggle Tooth
Great! I forgot all about “squares”. Yep, those who were not hip definitely were squares. lol

    Pat
Because you were unsupervised. Those were the best times, even though always brief.

    LL Cool Joe
Cannot see that as your look. Really cannot see it as anyone's look.

    Riot Kitty
Now the girls are shopping at used clothing stores hoping to find jeans that are already falling apart. The more holes the better.

    Sparkling Red
Who ever came up with the design for those awful sweaters? They had to be totally uncomfortable and were not all that attractive.

  26. Way too short mini skirts and bell bottoms...Afros...bee hives...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha I've been through way too many "looks" in my life time. :D
