HER NAME IS ELLA

I have seen Ella looking at me though I am not yet acquainted with many of the young children in our church.    Perhaps her interest has to do with my different wig each week.  She is a tiny thing and it is my guess that she is about four years old. Her grandparents bring her to church and Ella is neatly dressed and coiffed to perfection.  She is a precious little angel.

This past Sunday Ella and I ended up on the same pew.  The child was watching me closely as I sketched a picture of our visiting guest preacher.  Whispering something to her grandmother, Ella was allowed to move toward me and watch me draw.  She was too shy to speak to me but she tapped on the picture which I assumed meant she wanted me to continue drawing.

We stood for the closing hymn and Ella went back to her grandmother, took something from her and came back to me.  She tapped the picture she brought and then she tapped me.  She was giving me her own drawing.  We made it a trade and I gave her mine.

Here is Ella in her back yard climbing the ladder to play on her new slide with the sun shinning on her through the shade of her favorite tree.

It is nice to have a new friend.

  4. Magical. You have stimulated a new artist who may be famous someday. LOVE THIS!! I even think that God would have approved.

It is my guess that Ella won't be as shy around me next week.

Yes, precious. Ella saw the joy I felt when she gave me her neat drawing.

It was fun and a bit surprising. Her grandmother gave me a nod that it was okay to accept the drawing. It is a very good drawing for such a youngster.

Gee, I hope God approves because I draw quite often in church. Yes I'm guessing Ella has a creative side to be such a fine artist at an early age.

  7. That is so wonderful. My Ella is Caroline. Her father and I work in the technical booth on Sundays so Caroline has been around me most of her life. She treats me like another grandmother. I love it. I hope that Ella will open up to you soon. Everybody needs another grandchild.

  10. For a little girl that is really a great drawing. I love kids that age, just the best. Now we want to see something you have drawn! :)

  11. I just had to come back and comment on how large that slide looks in that little girls eyes. I had forgotten how intimidating a slide could be.

We are all hoping to hear more about Ella as the weeks go by - her love will keep you going Annie.
Thanks for dropping in to my place - as you can see I'm not so down hearted now.
    Take care

You are so right. And it is obvious Ella knows not to talk in church.

Maybe Ella will turn into a Caroline for me. I am eager for church on Sunday to see if she will still feel the bond.

There was a bit of a guilty feeling taking such a nice drawing because grandma might have wanted it, but she indicated it was okay for me to accept. She probably already has her refrigerator door covered with Ella's art work.

I agree. The detail in the drawing for such a young child really took me by surprise.

She is destined to be an artist for sure. My art is on the back burner for now. Cannot get any enthusiasm built up for drawing since Ron died. He was my cheering section.

I know exactly what you mean. As a child I lived in a house with a HUGE screened in front porch and I would roller skate on the porch when it rained. Going back to visit that house after a number of years that porch seemed no bigger than a postage stamp.

Keep your chin up my friend. Glad to know you are not as downhearted. Hope my Ella story helped and I will try to share more.

  14. oooooooh! This is the sweetest thing ever. When I was little my mother always gave me a pencil & scrap paper (ok, sometimes the back of a donation envelope)so that I would stop squirming. :-)

  17. What a wonderful thing that is for both of you - I am truly charmed by it. Did her drawing go on your fridge?

  18. That's so adorable! I love her drawing. That slide has got to be 60 feet tall - exactly what I would have wanted at that age.

  19. Oh my... This is such a sweet story. She certainly saw something loving and beautiful in you and wanted to share something of herself with you. Beautiful!
