CAR STAR

Happy, happy, joy, joy:)
The story unfolds.
Beth has $1,000 to buy a car.
Her Houston grandparents gave her the same amount they gave her brothers when they were looking for cars.  Beth anticipated finding an old reliable but well used car much like her brothers found with their $1,000.

Granny Annie is having lunch at the Senior Center.  Her table mate Jane is talking about a car for sale.  She does not want to sell it to boys in their town because she does not want to see them driving it around and popping wheelies, etc.  This car is Jane's baby and she is the original owner of this loaded 1999 Chevrolet that only has 74,000 miles on it. She really likes it when Granny Annie says her granddaughter is looking for a car.  Jane would like to sell it to a girl and really would like to sell it to someone out of town so she doesn't have to see it all the time.  The little car is loaded and listed blue book for $3800.  Jane says she will sell it to Beth for $1,000.  Granny Annie tries not to faint and fall in the floor.

Yesterday after the test drive and after having a mechanic check out the vehicle the money was paid and the car was transferred to Beth's ownership.

Reasons Jane says she gave us such a good deal.
1. It would be driven by a girl.
2. Jane was in the Navy for 30 years.
3. Jane noticed Ron's "Senior Chief" emblem on my truck.

"The Senior Chief always has eyes on everything" Jane said.

  11. What a lovely story. Such a lucky event...or perhaps it was Karma.

  12. Brighid -- You bet. Ron was always partial to the girls and treated them like princesses.

Olga -- We felt like that was the case.

Sonny -- There definitely seemed to be some divine guidance in coming across this car.

    G.B. Miller -- Ditto!

Winfred -- It is a lovely color but I have heard that red cars get more tickets than any other color car. Hope that won't apply to Beth.

ancient one -- It is a lovely story isn't it.

Jeanie -- Her brothers are indeed jealous. I'll never forget when we took all three of my son's children to some garage sales. The boys begged for this that and the other and Ron wouldn't budge in buying them anything. Beth found a lovely Princess dress-up dress that was just her size and grandpa grabbed it up for her. The boys pouted all day at grandpa's prejudice. They had to earn the money they would spend (and he payed them well) but Beth and the other two granddaughters got whatever they ask for.

Talon -- My son says the car is performing wonderfully and certainly seems like the perfect buy we anticipated. Still pinching ourselves. It is a five speed and Beth is having to learn it but her dad says she is a natural.

    R. Ramanathan -- You'll have to find a nice car like that for your little granddaughter when she outgrows her pony. (Neat picture of her on your travel blog.)

Kay -- You are so right about Jane. I hardly know her and was astounded by her generosity. The car is not only well maintained, it has an alarm system on it and great stereo, etc. etc.

Tabor -- Sure having fun thinking it was Karma involving her granddad.

  13. Good for her. It sounds like a good deal.

I gave my beloved 2001 X-Terra to my youngest daughter and got myself a new 2012 X-Terra, but I still covet the old one. Oddly, both of my girls covet the new one with all the bells and whistles. They constantly pester me for it.

  20. What a beautiful car and what a great deal too :)

Just to share, in Singapore car is the most expensive. Besides paying for the car....one need to bid for a Certificate of Entitlement (COE) - it is like a licence. One needs to bid for a COE before one is allow to buy a car. It is crazy :D

  21. What awesome luck- for Beth! There's about zero decent cars for that money around here these days-
How nice of Jane to help you out! An amazing story. Hope Beth keeps up maintenance n has a ride for years to come. Score!

  24. That is so great. When my daughter was getting ready for a car, my mother had a friend who was in her 90's, who, after a little dinger, and her insurance went up, decided it was time to stop driving.

We bought her car for $500. It was a wonderful car for Sarah as she started driving. Your granddaughter got a great deal. I hope it serves her well.
