CHANGE OF STYLE TO FARM EXECUTIVE

DON'T LET THAT SWEET FACE FOOL YOU.

TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THOSE HORNS.

Yesterday I was sharing a little food treat with the goats to try and keep them in the back field. They get excited about their sweet feed and got a little pushy. Tandy Kid, once a cute cuddly baby, is now a selfish old billy goat and got a little demanding for his share and more. He butted me and I threw the bucket and when I did, I broke off a fingernail... to the quick. OMG!

Why would a C.F.G.H. (chicken farmer goat herder) try to have nice long polished fingernails on the farm? Today they all go (the fingernails, not the goats). So far, far away from the days of corporate dress, polished nails, panty hose and fancy hair-dos.

Referring to yesterday's post, I definitely took the road less traveled in 2000 when I gave up banking for rural life. And would I trade this life now? Not a chance:)

  1. I gave up nice fingernails when I chose the life of a florist. My nails had always been brittle and broke easily, and gel nails looked great, but did horrible damage to my poor little nails underneath. I am allergic to nail polish anyway, so I gave up. I try to keep them clean and buffed and that will have to do.

  2. Oh my - I'll bet that hurt! I get pedicures and love pretty polish on my toes, but I've given up on manicures and just keep my nails filed short with no polish.

I'm glad you are loving your life.

  3. Goodness! I don't blame you for bringing a little beauty into the farm business! Too bad it hurt you. Maybe a nice shade of lipstick! That couldn't cause you injury could it? You'll be the hottest chicken farmer ever! :D

I like goats. I also like a sheep or two. Can say I had a sheep who butted mother every time she bent over to pick green beans. She really got tired of that pretty quick.

  6. I can understand the appeal. I've always thought I'd en up in the mountains someplace, with property and no internet connection. My grandparents did just as you did and never looked back.

  10. kenju – I gave them up once before when I was trying to learn guitar but I’ve had longer nails for such a long time I missed the utility of them. Guess if I go for a while I will get used to short nails.

Lynn – I have only had one pedicure in my life and my sister gave it to me. I loved my toes for that brief period but could never go through the torment again. Ouch, it hurt my poor tootsies.

OGO – I’m putting a tube of lipstick near the door and every time I put on my wig, I’ll add a little lipstick and walk out singing “I feel pretty, Oh so pretty….”

Abraham Lincoln – My mother had a goat chase her away from a bus stop when she was in college so she always hated goats. We named our first goat after her.

Chatty Crone – Yes it is the “rich” life.

Pheromone Girl – Kind of the same dream only mine always includes the computer and internet.

Blunt Delivery – I would NEVER have guessed. Please tell us more someday.

Riot Kitty – This crippled finger tip is worse than having a broken arm.

LL Cool Joe – Yep, I’ll keep this life, that’s for sure

  11. Naughty Tandy Kid!

Yes, better nails long enough to cover the quick than long ones that end up causing us pain :)

Isn't it something to know you took a whole new trail and it was exactly the right one for you? :)

  12. So Tandy kid is playing the part of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff! Pretty pushy for a little guy too- Must be difficult to polite-train a goat!
I grow nails on one hand, n cut the other for guitar playing. No polish- allergic. They always seem to break at work just before Day Off. (Cause I want to fingerpick with nails)
Sorry the pretty nails had to bite the dust- Every one has vanity issues...
