WE HAVE SEPARATED
Yes, Ron and I separated on New Years Day. Not in our marriage but in our daily lives. The Dish Television people actually came to our home on January 1st to install our new DVR and put an extension on the living room television. I now have my own 120 channels and my own REMOTE. I may never go in the den again. Of course if Ron needs some food or drink he can call me on his cell and I can pause my show to wait on him. Will wonders never cease?
It is fun watching my own show choices because we have extremely different taste but....I sure miss Ron:(
Guess time will tell if the separation will work. If we decide to reconcile, will he go for blood and guts murder mysteries or will I compromise for the History, Discovery and News channels?
By the way, I got custody of Slim. Ron gets den visitation when he is eating something she expects to share::)

I was alarmed for a moment - but this kind of "separation" worked for my mom and dad for years and years. They already had a den with a nice TV, but turned an unused bedroom into a second den, with an equally nice TV set up. They would meet for lunch in the kitchen. :) I smiled one day when mom and dad realized they had watched the same program in different rooms and had a discussion about it.

ReplyDeleteHubby and I mostly watch the same except when it is football which is boring to me. Except for that great Rose Bowl game where TCU won, great game. Anyway I do love those mysteries! He is the first to miss me and if the game is boring he comes upstairs.
ReplyDeleteMr. kenju and I seldom watch the same TV programs. I let him have the den TV until 8pm and then I go to the den and he goes to the bedroom. We are "ships that pass in the night".

My solution to the different taste problem is to wait until "he who is in charge of the remote" is asleep. Works most of the time!
Just thought I'd let you know I watched a new detective drama last night on BBC1 called Zen. You might like it. It's set in Rome (was actually filmed there) and based on the Michael Dibdin novels. You can see info here about it but not sure you can watch it on iPlayer but you might be able to watch the clips. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00x9x43 I enjoyed it. There are 2 more programmes to see. Seems to be the thing now make 3 programmes and test the water. Hopefully they'll produce more as there are 11 novels.

Actually we have the same arrangement, both tv's are HD but one is huge. The one in the kitchen is smaller but a great picture also.
We take turns sitting in the kitchen.

ReplyDeleteMy son gave us a nice flat screen TV for Christmas... We put it in the upstairs den and I can go up there if TF is watching something I just can't watch... Most of the time we are on the same page...

that should definately come in handy for boring tv sports game time- But maybe try to schedule something to watch together once in awhile- Sounds like you're never shutting tv off either!

Funny, we were sort of contemplating something similar. At the moment I control the TV in the mornings and get quite P.O'd if someone tries to take the remote. All of my shows are recorded so the hour or so I have to myself everyday is when I try not to bore the boys with romantic comedies and Grey's Anatomy. Good luck with your separation.
