SURPRISE IN THE ORCHARD

Four years ago we purchased seven young pecan trees. We lost two for no reason other than weather or maybe they were doomed to begin with. The other five trees have done very well. We were told not to expect any pecans for seven years. Lo and behold, Ron came to the house to get me and told me to grab my camera. He had a surprise to show me. Look closely at this little tree and see the two beautiful clusters of nice, large paper shell pecans. I believe these excited me as much as new kittens or hatching chicks.

If you ever decide to come visit us, remember we will get as much work out of you as we can. My daughter brought her two children this weekend and not only did she work herself to death on the inside of my house, Ron had poor Michael on the barn roof sealing leaks.

Our granddaughter Hope has turned out to be the best goat herder of all. She worked to keep the goats in the back of the property. You can tell from the picture how Tandy Kid has grown. This will probably be the last time Hope will be able to pick him up.

Thanks to everyone for the supportive comments on the sleep study. I believe I am ready now to go through with it since you all made it sound easy and worthwhile.

I am still loving the art project but I am not as frantic about it as I was at first and believe I can blog and work on my portraits also.

  1. Michael looks as if he is doing a good job. :) Can't decide if he is happy about being on the roof. :)

You have wonderful grandchildren, looks like.

    Congrats on the pecans!

  2. I love that - that's what family is for - helping hands :)

Tandy Kid is getting huge! I love that photo - there's such life in it - the dog, the goat and the girl :)

  3. Same here, with visitors paying their way by pitching in, especially on tasks Hubby and I are too stiff or unable to do. Glad to know you accellerated the pecan show.

Gotta love those pecans! There's nothing better than chocolate chip cookies filled with healthy pecans. It's like a junk food/health nut bar all in one. Love your farm.

  5. Ha ha I love it. Get the whole family doing chores! Actually I'd much rather visit with people that gave me a job to do rather than sitting talking I have to say!

    That pecan tree looks amazing!

  10. Annie,

Now the question is: How do you pronounce pecan?

I was told once that you should say PEA CAHN because a PEA CAN is what a long distance driver keeps in his truck....

    What do you think?

  11. Congrats on those early Pecans! My Mom used to make pecan candy- now I want some!
Good luck with the sleep thing.
You're blessed your family is willing n able to help!
Tandy Kid looks big! N a bit fat- But good with people at least!
Just split your day up for each, or take turns every other day- so progress gets made for both.

  12. I loved the pictures of your pecans. I can taste the pie now, yum. Maybe a trip to your place is what I need. I'd take off 20lbs the first 2 days I'm sure. It's nice that everyone chips in when they come to "visit".

  14. Best wishes for the sleep study being helpful for you, Granny. I'll have to read the post below to find out more about what you are doing, but hope it helps and you will be able to get a good night's consistent sleep after it!

Pecans - as is pecan pie?

The goat is really growing up fast!

  15. I love the picture of Hope with Tandy Kid! I never see scenes like this where I live, and don't worry, if I ever were to visit you, I'd not only climb on your rooftop and shout all kinds of obscenities in Spanish, I'd make you, Ron and the grandkids some tasty vittles...but only if you make me some pecan pies! ;)

    Nice tree, Annie!

  16. Oh yum, pecans. My grandpa had a couple of big trees on his property in north Florida. We were always glad to gather them and eat them. Yum.
