A TASTE OF PIONEER DAYS

Some of these horses weigh almost 2000 pounds each. Watch the video at the bottom of this post.
This was a rock crusher that Ron believed would take care of our major rock problem on NOL-NOC Estates. The one that was for sale was smaller and I think he would rather have had this one.
Here is Ron drooling over a row of Allis Chalmers tractors.
This is a vintage Maytag washing machine.

We went to Ft. Scott, KS on Saturday for the annual Pioneer Days celebration. Ron loves to look at the old tractors and early machines. He almost bought a huge rock crusher but gave it a little more thought and will keep looking.

My favorite event is the horse pull. This video gives a little taste of the fair and also the thrill of watching teams of horses. Some of the teams weigh almost two ton each and pull sleds of huge concrete blocks with more blocks added each time around.

  1. Great video. I prefer the blue 'horse' that pulled the sled back into position. I've been around too many horses.
We have something similar to this event near Lincoln each year. Yeah it's fun for sure.

  2. My mom had an old Maytag like that one when I was 3-4-5 years old. I can remember it on the covered back porch, and sometimes, she let me turn the crank to press the water out of the clothes. It was great fun for me back then...LOL

  3. I enjoyed the video...use to love the tractor pulls at the fair but they don't have them anymore like they use to.

I can't even imagine having to use a washer like that. We sure are spoiled.

  6. Looks like a very fun and unique day. As Lynn said it looked like the horses were raring to go! I wondered if they may be hate the idea of pulling those weights, but they seemed to love it.

  7. Looks like you had a fabulous time! And this makes me very grateful for mod cons!

I love Draft horses...a friend of mine owns two Percherons - beautiful, friendy giants.

  8. How did they ever *move* those cannons, let alone fire them? I am glad I was born in the current time, because I would have wimped out as a pioneer.

  9. I love horses. Are they Percherons, Belgans, or Suffock Punch? I can;t watch videos on this slow modem, but will see it later when I babysit at BBMs down the hill soon.
    Looks like a fun time.
