I STILL CRY IN THE END

First my daughter and I watched the movie together years ago with her friends then my god daughter joined us watching it. Now when we get together we watch it out of nostalgia and we clap and hoot and holler and repeat the lines before they are spoken.

Yesterday clicking past channels the move was on so I watched it by myself. It appears a little different that way. I am a mature 63 year old woman and can see the absolute hysterical value of the film when the uncle dies in a tragic work related accident but his nephew still must go on and ride the rodeo the night of the uncle's funeral. And it's not quite a rodeo. It's a mechanical bull riding contest in a big local tavern.

Yet, as corny as the movie really is, when the couple jumps in the pickup at the end and he pops open the glove box, get's her license place and puts it in the back window on her side of the truck as they drive away, I still cry.

Do you know of what movie I speak? Do you have movies that affect you this way? I don't think I'll watch this one alone anymore because it's more fun with the girls. We just enjoy it corn and all.

  1. I can't remember the name of the movie but if it is the one I think it is...John Travolta starred in it:) I have several movies that I know what will happen and still cry...go figure.

  2. I nearly cried this morning watching the Discovery Channel "Baby Story"...so I'm a sucker for anything that's liable to make you cry!!!

As for the hand washing with Baby C, the day care does remind the parents to wash their hands but you can't force them!!! Plus they day care does tell the preschoolers to wash their hands before lunch as well, but as they wait for the parents to come get them they're rolling around on the floor so it defeats the purpose!! LOL

Sorry you couldn't watch the movie...did it just not play for you or something? At first you needed to sign in a friend told me so I changed the players so you don't need to sign in just hit play.

  3. We rented the Disney movie Up this weekend. The lead character is an old man who recently loses his wife of many, many, many years. It goes through the whole sequence of when they met as children, when they lost their baby, all the way through the whole life together as a couple. The last clip is the man standing at the funeral. Hubs and I both cried and held hands. We still can't believe this was a kids movie! A great one though it was!

  5. small town aspirations - always great in that movie. and for me, never mind the bull riding, why would she stay with him after he done her wrong? i guess he redeemed himself at the end...because wasn't the other guy (i know the actor's name, but i won't say it) meaner than the lead guy? i remember feeling uncomfortable watching with beth though....was she a little too young? ;)

  6. Annie,

I think this is a picture that I also loved.

Haven't thought of it for years and had to go to Netflix Info to get the Title which I had forgotten.

    Is it Urban Cowboy?

  7. Changes -- Yep, John Travolta (and I just watched him in The Taking Of Pelham 123. I feel so sorry for him since he lost his son.

BEM -- I'm going back to try to watch the video again. Hope I can get it now.

Dani -- that sounds like one that would leave me crying.

Riot Kitty -- Nancy guessed it. She's always right.

Jessi -- OMG, did we watch with Beth? I didn't remember. Oh yes Scott Glenn as prison rodeo champion Wes Hightower -- what a D.A. but totally into domestic violence:)(As Milton says, "it only takes a warm handshake to make Ann cry." LOL

Nancy -- you did it again. Yep. Urban Cowboy with John Travolta. When he shaves that beard and turns around at the bar all spiffed up and sexy looking, we whoop and holler! Do you?

  9. Never saw this movie, but now I will have to check it out. My type of corny romantic movie tends toward things like Out of Africa...the epic type.

  12. Urban Cowboy with John Travolta (Bud) and Debra Winger (Sissy), and when he punches that creep Scott Glenn (Wes) in the nose when he got beating up Sissy, that was a hoot and hollerin' part in the movie.

I need to go watch that again. It is a great movie.

You want a good feel good movie, make ya cry at the end too? Watch Serendipity, my favorite lovee dovee movie of all time.

    Hugs,
    Di

Urban Cowboy. I remember it well. The wedding when he showed Sissy the new TRAILER.

  14. Movies can have a "life" of their own, long after the first viewing, can't they? Some movies remind me of the first time I saw them at the theater...who I was with, what theater, where, what my life was like.

Certain movies ALWAYS nake me cry at the end. Steel Magnolias, the first Rocky, The Spitfire Grill, and It's A Wonderful Life, to name a few.
