BREAKING BARRIERS
Someone dumped the stray dog in our area. It seems like a friendly old dog and has a collar but no tags. We run it off every time is shows up to sleep in Ron's shop or our barn somewhere. We feel sorry for the old dog but don't need another dog. This week Hope discovered this wayfaring stranger and the next thing we know, it is on the porch waiting for her. Hope has named it Cookie. (Probably because she's been sneaking it cookies to eat!) Any bets on whether we have a new dog or not?

I have never, ever turned a stray away - people or dogs. It's hard to say no to happy eyes and loyalty, after all...

Do you have a pound in your area? I seem to remember another occasion that someone tried to give you a dog and it seems to me if you don't want it, it would be best to take it to the pound and maybe someone would take it in? This makes me think that maybe someone has become down and out and can't take care of their pet and thinks that since you have a farm you can.......Hard call for sure....because having a pet is a commitment.
ReplyDeleteI turned away the other pup because I knew the owners who were trying to shove it off on me. This dog is like us, elderly and needy. We feel like we might need to provide it a retirement home. It is so difficult to believe someone could just dump it. Our Slim is an adopted stray and she is the best dog in the world. She seems eternally grateful. Hopefully one of our other neighbors will adopt Cookie. Meanwhile we'll not let her starve.

ReplyDeleteWe leave for ship reunion and family visit next week. Slim will be boarded with our Vet. This will be the test for Cookie. We'll leave her food and water in our big cozy barn and instructions for the neighbors not to run her off. If she settles in while we're gone, we'll take her for shots and have her checked out and claim her as our own. Actually she has gone back to just passing by since our granddaughter left.

I am so grateful to read about the CT Scan and NO CLOT!! That is wonderful news!! I worked for a doctor that never trusted the radiologists and always looked at the x-rays himself. He caught several things they missed.
