OUR WEDDING SONG

FIRST OUR WEDDING SONG
This was dedicated to us by friends as our perfect wedding song:
IN SPITE OF OURSELVES duet written by John Prine

(SING ALONG)

She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my babyI'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.

He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a wacked out werido and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby
I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

(spoken) In spite of ourselves

(This is where the interest in Brass Monkeys came up in the previous post just in case you wondered.)

  2. Yes an appropriate wedding march don't you think? I'm hoping you got to watch the YouTube video with the actual singers. I accidentally linked the wrong video the first time.

  9. Renie, I hope you did watch the duet on the video. It helps to listen to the song.

Glad you got a chuckle out of it Judy.

Jessi, I can't believe you never told me you saw John Prine live!!

Ralph, I knew you would enjoy this musical highlight.

Maria, I just wish I had written it. Poetry for sure.

RK, we did more than dance:-) This was our wedding song and we listened to that CD constantly on our Honeymoon to San Diego and back ten years ago.

  11. Hi Annie,

I just watched the video of John Prine and Iris DeMent and it was GREAT!

I grew up on the means streets of Philadelphia so we didn't get to hear much Country music so I hadn't heard a song like this is quite a while.

I enjoyed it so much I twisted the dial on my radio until I found a Country station and they were playing this tune.

"You ain't giving me much, Baby, but it's more than I'm getting at home."

Where else could I hear music like that?

From now on, it's COUNTRY for me.

  13. Jamie Dawn, Nancy, OGO, thanks for commenting on our special song. I knew you guys would all relate:)

I must add that my wonderful spouse hasn't had a drink of alcohol in about 15 years. He's always high on life. We're still the big door prize!

  14. That was such a cute song. I tried to post last night and read up on some of your posts that I missed but your blog would come up with error all the time, so I am catching up this morning.
