Our little flock of guinea fowl fill a needed link in the predator alarm system on NOL-NOC Estates. If Slim is in the house, the guineas will set up a warning that danger is present and Slim is out the door in a flash. We're not losing as many chickens since we have this nice little bunch of guineas.
The "I Love Your Blog" link features the value of free-range chicken eggs and why we work so hard to protect our flock.
Sometimes old-fashioned systems work the best :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard geese are supposed to be good too. They are lovely to look at but I bet they're more vicious than your lovely guinea fowl.
ReplyDeleteThat's an added benefit, right? Good!
ReplyDeleteI am sure its a great alarm system you got there, definitely has more esthetic appeal---so what does it cost to keep the Guinea Hen Alarm system up and running? (I know it costs "Chicken feed" right?) (lol)
ReplyDeleteHi...
ReplyDeleteI like your alarm system... Cute birds...
Sounds like you have come up with a good solution.....Nature provided its own way.
ReplyDeleteAnd they're pretty girls, too!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a nice set up. Those guineas are cute.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have that added alarm system there. Maybe I need some guineas to keep the vandals away.
ReplyDeleteHow cleaver to have something serve double duty. Did you plan it?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should get two of those...to add to my collection. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky Gran - and smart to have them !
ReplyDeleteI GOT SCARED OUT OF MY MIND LAST NIGHT THAT i THOUGHT i HEARD A PROWLER OUTSIDE - AND CALLED 9-1-1.
I would rather have had the guinea fowl, since it just turned out to be the wind pushing tree branches against the windows... ...
We had guineas on the farm when I was growing up. They made very good watch-guineas!! They are cute too!
ReplyDeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeleteGuineas are great. I remember that the neighbors had them when I was growing up on the farm. They would wander onto our property and I always enjoyed watching them.
Glad they are putting up an alarm for Slim.
Enjoy your week.
Blessings,
Mary
