AUCTION ENTERTAINMENT

If you have never been to an auction, you simply must go. We attended a huge auction yesterday. We did not spend much and came home with a van full of goodies. This vintage Imperial Pottery cat was in a box full of stuff that we got for $1.00. We bought a box full of hats for $1.00 and one was a Stetson that only needs cleaning and re blocking. We also came home with a lovely Lane Cedar Chest for the foot of our bed. Ron won the bid at $35.00. I was in shock and tried not to shout.

Two bidders approached us to buy something out of our auction boxes. Both paid more for the individual items than we had paid for the entire box.

You also hear great stories at an auction. I was eavesdropping on a couple of gentlemen discussing whether to bid on the cowboy hats or not. They were trying them on and one was encouraging the other to bid on that hat that looked great on him. The fellow responded, "My grandpa told me never to hire anyone wearing a cowboy hat or smoking a pipe. The one with the had works harder to keep the hat on his head than he does working and the pipe smoker is always wasting time trying to keep the pipe lit."

See, you get great stuff and great advice for little money at an auction. Great entertainment!

Now, don't forget my November "Color Me Who?" contest. First clue: "This is a drawing of three generations, mom, daughter, grandmother."

  1. I love auctions! I don't go very often because I have enough stuff and will fall out of my place if I buy anymore.

  4. I daren't buy any more stuff. My daughter has told me that wen I pop my clogs she'll have a terrible time clearing the house out.

She's not at all sentimental, I know she'll hire a skip and all my treasured stuff will go to the rubbish tip!

  7. I have never been to an auction, but I must add it to my bucket list. A good deal mixed with a little entertainment (or good advice) is always nice.

  8. I love auctions and Pete and I used to go to them quite frequently. I love the junk boxes for $1.00. There is usually at least one treasure in the box. I bought a couple of benches, in poor shape one for 1.00 and the other for 5.00. My dad refinished them, they could sell them in my families antique store for 200.00. The were very rustice with no paint or finish and I just love them now, they are goergeous! I like primitive furniture.

  9. We used to go years ago to "buy and resell". Good in theory, I kept everything so we had to quit going! Good finds.

  10. Pretty, pink cat.
The auction sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm glad you contained your emotion when Ron got the cedar chest.
Shouting would have made others think you were thrilled and very silly.

I'm glad you received the cross necklaces.
I hope whoever wears them will enjoy them.

    :-)

  11. I love to go to auctions but haven't been in ages. You do sometimes get great bargains at them. You certainly did!!

When you buy those boxes you never know what you are getting! Sometimes treasures, sometimes trash!
