ROOSTER HILL

THEN

NOW
This huge pile of dirt served, at first, as a political hill for the roosters. At the end of each day the winner of the climb would pose at the top of the hill and crow his lungs out. He fought his way to the top. Now weeds have grown all over the dirt pile and the new chickens use it for their hiding place. During the day I will look for my 30 Cloelles and won't see a sign of them. At dusk they will begin to pour out of their mountain and head back to the pen.

  1. Isn't that something? Actually, love the before and after - nature works quickly.

  2. That is so neat! I'm just getting the visual of all those chickens coming out of there at sundown, like a chicken river:) You should invite someone over that doesn't know they do that and send 'em out there when it's time for them to come out!

  3. Thanks JeanMac, Monica and Sprinkle. I appreciate your comments. I can't seem to catch a good picture with the chicks coming off the hill because they stampede off on the opposite side of where I'm standing. I'll keep trying. Also a few decide to stay hidden on the hill and that is not good. This morning we found the entire wing of a red one. We don't expect that she survived that.

  4. I think it is awesome. A person who didn't know what a chicken was ever saw one coming out they would freak out.
    Great it's so cool...

  5. Are they hiding from the sun, or something more sinister?

  7. I am going to try to film this "happening" before I run out of new chickens. It appears my 30 Cloelles have dropped to 21 unless they are moving too fast when I count them in the morning. I'm going to try to catch them tonight with the flashlight after bedtime. And, yes Judy, I think they are getting out of the sun but it coule be more sinister.
