I saw a photo today of a wedding shower gift table. The gifts were ALL in bags. I love gift bags. They are the easiest way to present the gift.
Is that a good thing -- the easiest way?
Remember the days of boxes stacked on the table with pretty paper and pretty ribbons. You wondered what was in the largest box to the smallest box. A lot of time or extra cost went into preparing the package.
My first job at age 16 was a gift wrapper in a department store. Until then I did not know there was such an art to properly wrapping a package.
Remember the days when we could take the time to show a little extra love in the presentation of a gift?
I will still use the bags because they become a gift as well. Wrapping paper was usually only good for a one time use.
I shall still lament the dying art of gift wrapping.
I'll have you know I still gift wrap. I love seeing someone tear into a present, especially kids. I'll only use a gift bag if it's a last min. present or it's small and I don't have appropriate gift wrapping. I hope the art doesn't die out because I, for one, will continue to do it.
ReplyDeletePS - Your comment on my blog had me on the floor laughing. Seriously, the comment about the chickens cracked me up! :D
I take great pride in wrapping a beautiful present! I also worked as a wrapper in a dept. store, and it was one of the best jobs I ever had. Didn't pay much - but I loved it!
ReplyDeleteMy mother was one of those people who could wrap a two dollar gift and make it look like a million bucks. I, on the other hand, wrap gifts like a third grader. I still wrap though...tradition dies hard you know?:)
ReplyDeleteI love the gift wrapping too. I know the bags are quicker and easier but the pretty packages to open are so much nicer.
ReplyDeleteAt Christmas with bags there is no way to keep people from having a sneak peek, and no one ever knows!!
i still use wrapping paper at christmas and i use bags for all other occasions. so for me, there'll always be some wrapping.

Well, I thought I was going to be the only one who still wraps gifts but low and behold I am part of a group! I think for many people it is more about time than the choice:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like I have outed myself as a lazy bum! Wow, I should have known all you creative folks would still be wrapping gifts.
ReplyDeleteNo more than ten minutes ago, I wrapped a birthday gift....I still like wrapping a gift, all the fun of tearing off the paper to get inside. I do use gift bags but not very often.
ReplyDeleteHey, I was a gift wrapper at Montgomery Ward department store when I was a freshman in college.
ReplyDeleteI love a beautifully wrapped present. I think they are special. I use gift bags often because they are easy, but I enjoy taking time to wrap gifts now and then.
There is a place around here that still has free gift wrapping!!! Most women here go on the registry there for their wedding shower!!!
