More faces from 2016.  Hopefully posting these old ones will get me in the swing of things to do some creative work again.  I have lost my zip.

DID YOU KNOW...

 DID YOU KNOW...

Abraham Lincoln Was Also a Licensed Bartender

Besides being a wrestling champ, Lincoln was also a licensed bartender. In 1833, the 16th president opened up a bar called Berry and Lincoln with his friend William F. Berry in New Salem, Illinois. The shop was eventually closed when Berry, an alcoholic,  consumed most of the shop's supply.

WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY - 09-28-2022

WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY – 09-28-2022

The prompts will be on Elephant's Child this month, but they are being provided by David M. Gascoigne.

Afternoon, furrowed, enchanted, knowing, organized, singing

and/or

Clutched, beyond, metaphysical, symbiosis, vital, father.

MOB VIOLENCE by Granny Annie

We had intended to have a happy drive to my Grandmother's house. We turned the corner to encounter a metaphysical symbiosis of two wild groups of rioters. Father clutched the steering wheel. His brow was furrowed. It was easy to tell he was worried but I was enchanted. The sounds of organized singing was beautiful on this crowded afternoon. Everything seemed perfectly fine to me but my all-knowing dad knew better. Making our way beyond this crowd would be vital. The news on the radio told the story and I finally understood.

HAPPY FUNNY TUESDAY - 09-27-2022

Snort, snort...
The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.

I thought I saw an eye doctor on an Alaskan island, but it turned out to be an optical Aleutian.

She was only a whisky maker, but he loved her still.

A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class because it was a weapon of math disruption.

The butcher backed into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work.

LOOK WHAT I AM INTO NOW...

You are all aware that I am busy attending book reviews.  Well, now I am hosting monthly book reviews at our local Senior Center.  Our Center proposed that a local reviewer come to us and do some book reviews but there would be a charge of $50.  Since we are a non-profit organization, I agreed to try some book reviews at no charge.  For October I will review THE SILENT PATIENT which was heard at one I attended and then for November I will review EMPIRE OF PAIN.  If you have not read this book you must.

Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty is a 2021 book by Patrick Radden Keefe. The book examines the history of the Sackler family, including the founding of Purdue Pharma, their role in the marketing of pharmaceuticals, and the family's central role in the opioid epidemic.

One Time, 100 Imposters Claimed to Be Marie Antoinette's Dead Son

After the French Revolution, eight-year-old Louis XVII was imprisoned and then never seen in public ever again. His parents were executed in 1793 and, afterward, he was horrifically abused, neglected, and left isolated in a prison cell in the Paris Temple. In 1795, he died of Tuberculous at 10-years-old. His body was buried in secret in a mass grave. Years later, dozens of men came forward claiming to be him because a Bourbon restoration was a possibility and a successful claimant could then potentially find himself on the throne of France.

WFW - FROM THE PAST 08-4-2016

I don't have time to compose, so here is another composition from my first year participating in the Words For Wednesday. August 4, 2016

Words for Wedensday offered by Hannah BananaFace this month. Not just two sets for words but two pictures to choose from this week. I took the first set of words:

Convalescence - Rancor - Empathy - Expertise - Dangle – Tissues

And chose the picture of the Abandoned Car

AGING by Granny Annie

The abandoned car found there
Appeared to be in convalescence.
Years of neglect had caused it to
Lose it's effervescence.

Treatment of a once fine car
Began to raise my rancor.
Not even good enough to be
Repossessed by the banker.

The thoughts of this neglected car
Definitely stirred my empathy
Perhaps such abandonment
Would become my legacy.

Formerly talented with a lot
Of life's brilliant expertise,
Then one day deserted to
Gather rust and never please.

A bright ornament on the
Car mirror used to dangle.
Now wilted beyond recognition
Hanging at an awkward angle.

Tears in my eyes caused me to
Dig in my purse for tissues
Walking away from the car forever
While my own aging plight continues.

DID YOU KNOW

 DID YOU KNOW...

Turkeys Were Once Worshiped Like Gods?

These big birds, in 300 B.C. were heralded by the Mayan people as vessels of the gods and were honored as such, so much so that they were domesticated to have roles in religious rites. They were symbols of power and prestige and can be found everywhere in Maya iconography and archaeology.

BEST ADVENTURE & WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY

SEVEN YEARS AGO I WAS IN ALASKA WITH MY SIBLINGS.  I TOOK THE PICTURES SO IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE I WAS THERE BUT I WAS.

Brother and sister.

Siblings are down there somewhere.

Brother, SIL, Sister, BIL

When I first joined the Words For Wednesday I would write a poem with the words instead of a story.
Here is my first post in 2016. Right now I don't have time to concentrate on a new story so I will re-run some oldies but goodies.

TIME ERASED by Granny Annie

Standing guard with only
The company of the fireflies,
He yearned for his grandfather
As he gazed into the skies.

The young boy knew Pappy
Would eventually come there.
He closed his eyes.
He said a special prayer.

Others taunted the boy about
His granddad's checkered past
Leaving the youngster
With eyes and heart downcast.

He tried not to let it matter.
He spent this time
Whistling the happy tune
Pappy taught about sunshine.

Perhaps the song would
Lead his grandfather to him.
This waiting a solemn time
As the park lights grew dim.

The anxious boy opened the thermos
Pausing before taking a sip.
A silver haired man approached.
You could sense the kinship.

Pappy gently reached out
To wipe the boys tears.
He embraced his grandson.
He erased the missing years.

HAPPY FUNNY TUESDAY

A man shouts frantically into the phone

"My wife is pregnant and her contractions are only two minutes apart!"

"Is this her first child?" asks the Doctor.

"No", he shouts, "this is her husband!"
