DID YOU KNOW

 DID YOU KNOW...

During Prohibition in the United States, the U.S. government literally poisoned alcohol. When people continued to consume alcohol despite its banning, law officials got frustrated and decided to try a different kind of deterrent—death. They ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols manufactured in the U.S., which were products regularly stolen bootleggers. By the end of Prohibition in 1933, the federal poisoning program is estimated to have killed at least 10,000 people.

 HOME INVASION by Granny Annie

Darlene tip-toed into her parent's bedroom.  "Psst, psst, psst" she whispered in her daddy's ear. He could tell she was troubled so he questioned her quietly, "What's going on sweetheart?"  and Darlene responded, "Someone is in the house."

"Don't worry it's just your mom. She went to the kitchen."

"It's not me" Mom interjected, "I'm right here." and Darlene and her dad looked to see mom in the room. She seemed humdrum on the subject of her daughter's concern.

"Well" Dad responded "it is a quirky night and the wind is probably bumping tree limbs  against your window.

"It is none of that." came a voice from a puny fellow standing in the doorway to the room. He was acting very righteous.  The little guy was holding a gun and  had a big voice.  He ordered the family to stay in the bedroom while he gathered the loot he was planning to steal.

It all turned into a hapless adventure when a neighbor saw their light, sensed a problem, and called the police. The cops were awaiting the thief as he attempted to flee out the backdoor.

My spouse told me to stop impersonating a flamingo. I had to put my foot down.

I went to buy some camo pants but couldn’t find any.

I used to have a handle on life, but then it broke.

I failed math so many times at school, I can’t even count.

The Olympics Used to Award Medals for Art.

From 1912 to 1948, the Olympic Games held competitions in the fine arts. Medals were given for literature, architecture, sculpture, painting, and music. Naturally, the art created was required to be Olympic-themed. According to the founder of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Frédy, the addition of the arts was necessary because the ancient Greeks used to hold art festivals alongside the games. Before the art events were eventually removed, 151 medals were awarded.

PAROLE OFFICER by Granny Annie

They knew him in prison as TIGER. That name would CONFUSE many because he was a LIGHT-weight. It was known that it had taken at least a DOZEN police officers to restrain him when he had been captured. Earl, (his real name), believed it was like an EQUINOX, "the period of struggle between darkness and light, death and life”, that brought about his capture. All they had for his trial was SUSPICION and not a shred of evidence. Still their made-up INVESTIGATION brought about a guilty verdict with no TREATY in sight. His only idea of prison was from the movie GREEN MILE and that was what he expected.

The years for Earl's interment felt like a MOUNTAIN climb. His moment of parole finally arrived. Earl's first meeting with his parole officer, Maxine Holden, left him weak in the knees. She was beautiful and made him so nervous he could barely remember his STRATEGIC plans for return to freedom. Miss. Holden gave him a list of prospective employers. He found a job quickly only to learn the workers were facing REDUNDANCY. This gave him the perfect reason to return to see his beautiful parole officer. He thought of every reason he could to continue seeing her. She grew to believe in him and reviewed his trial and conviction. Maxine contacted The Innocence Project and begged them to look at Earl's conviction. With DNA evidence this group was able to overturn the verdict and clear his name. He sued the State was awarded a large settlement for his years in prison. Earl and Maxine married and began their own work on freeing wrongly convicted prisoners.

During the wedding rehearsal, the groom approached the minister with an unusual offer.

"Look, I'll give you $100 if you'll change the wedding vows. When you get to me and the part where I'm to promise to 'love, honor and obey' and 'forsaking all others, be faithful to her forever,' I'd appreciate it if you'd just leave that part out."

He passed the minister the cash and walked away satisfied. The wedding day arrives, and the bride and groom have moved to that part of the ceremony where the vows are exchanged.

When it comes time for the groom's vows, the minister looks the young man in the eye and says, "Will you promise to prostrate yourself before her, obey her every command and wish, serve her breakfast in bed every morning of your life and swear eternally before God and your lovely wife that you will not ever even look at another woman, as long as you both shall live?"

The groom gulped and looked around, and said in a tiny voice, "Yes." The groom leaned toward the minister and hissed, "I thought we had a deal." The minister put the $100 into his hand and whispered back, "She made me a much better offer."

 CHANGES by Granny Annie

Stephanie did not care for the  previous owner of the company who never ran out of constant warnings.   She delighted in sending this memo and looked forward to days ahead without as much argument as in the past.

Memo to:  Nation Highway Staff

From:        Stephanie Odell, SVP

Join us for tea and cookies on Tuesday to celebrate our new leadership.  We will sing a lively song composed under the guidance of our marketing department and played on piano by the our own  William Jones. It is with thanks that this composition was put together with such joy. We look forward to learning each new role under this major change.

DID YOU KNOW

 DID YOU KNOW

In the late 1700's, many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the wall, and was used for dining. The 'head of the household' always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor. Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man, would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge. They called the one sitting in the chair the 'chair man.' Today in business, we use the expression or title 'Chairman' or 'Chairman of the Board.'

DID YOU KNOW?

 DID YOU KNOW?

Must have been a cheap painting of George W.

In George Washington's days, there were no cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are 'limbs,' therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression, 'Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.' (Artists know hands and arms are more difficult to paint.)

ADOPT A PET by Granny Annie

I ask the rescue agency what they were going to do? They responded that it depended on what opportunity presented itself. It was a fact that people were not eager for the truth.  It could mean euthanasia.

The box of pups had been abandoned in the snow outside the restaurant.  My mom was the one who noticed them whimpering after others thought it was a box of old clothes. What kind of chemistry would make up a person who could leave these sweet doggies to freeze to death? Thankfully my mother's  philosophy was simple.  If the animal shelter couldn't help, it was her instruction that we would have 3 new dogs.  Yay!

I named them Huey, Dewey and Louie.

These are three real abandoned pups that inspired my story.  They have been rescued by the best!  I still want to go after them.  Someone just dumped them by the road.

HAPPY FUNNY TUESDAY - 06-07-2022

                    HAPPY FUNNY TUESDAY

We are doing battle with a coyote once again. My son called last night with an answer to how we can locate the coyote. His suggestion -- follow the UPS truck around our area and see where the ACME products are being delivered:)

The next funny person is my sister. I mentioned to her that Ron was now buying silver. Her immediate response was, "Does the Lone Ranger know?"

Grandson Dillon sent this to me. I laughed so hard! "I saw a joke on Twitter that made me think of you.A social networking site for chickens: Facebawk"

My kid sold the test answers to your honors student.

ANOTHER BIRTHDAY

Yesterday I turned 76.  My family and friends started my celebrations last Saturday and it has gone on all week.  Everyone fed me...not just with food but with love.  One grandson ask me what birthday I remembered most and I told  him my 10th.  Our parents told us early on that would be our only big celebration and mine sure was. How about you?  What was your most memorable birthday celebration?

TERROR ON THE LAKE by Granny Annie

The movie company had installed massive security despite their heavy ever increasing debt.  At one time their wealth had been world renown.  They still gave an impression of success but it was only a false perception

This tale of the haunted grocery on the lake could possibly help them regain their height on the charts.  Perhaps it would reopen the passion people had for their past motion pictures. A sample was prepared. It would all depend on the number of views of their trailer. With Steven King as the producer it had to be a winner.  Fingers crossed....

Sadly only 15 views...they were to go bankrupt.
