CATCH UP NOT KETCHUP

1.)
My friend Janet surprised me with a nice warm flannel jacket. She made this for me with her own two little hands (and her sewing machine) as a gift for no reason other than our friendship.  How nice is that?!

2.)
Mama David lives.  How can I explain that my cat which was eulogized a while back for being run over by a car, is actually alive and well? Chewbacca Kitten had looked and acted just like Mama David since the beginning.  Chewy was very elusive and I had not been able to catch her to have her spayed.  Finally I did and learned that the cat I took to the vet for spaying was Mama David.  It was her identical daughter Chewbacca that was struck and killed by a car.  Kind of a  happy/sad tale.  Mama David is resurrected.  She is also much nicer since she was spayed. I have changed the memorial photo for Chewy's short 4 months of life.

CHEWBACCA RIP April 14, 2014 to August 1, 2014
The other siblings turned six months old yesterday and are due their neutering next.  Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia (both boys) and Han Solo and Yoda, both girls. Hope I don't go broke before they all are fixed.

3.)
I was able to light the pilot on my furnace all by myself.  The cold came in and I called my son to come 160 miles round trip and light the pilot for me until I realized I should be able to do such things myself and I did.  I told him he did not need to come after all because "I am woman, hear me roar!" and he said "No surprises there.  I have been hearing you roar for 44 years."  LOL

4.)
The neighborhood vultures are standing wait at the back of my field.  I hope it isn't me they are looking for in eager anticipation of their next meal.

At least they aren't circling.

  3. Very nice jacket--cozy. It is surprising what we can accomplish for ourselves when we have to, but also nice to have help around the house sometimes. My brother-in-law came last weekend and got a number of little projects accomplished.

    1. OLGA HEBERT, my friend Janet can work miracles with a sewing machine. I am proud to own one of her creations. I had special helpers too. My son and two grands helped me a lot this weekend.

  5. What an awesome gift!
Cats have a lot of lives... but you might need new glasses, Deary...lol.! Taking the term "light'm up" to a new level, I see...

    1. BRIGHID, you are definitely right about needing new glasses. Lol In all fairness david is a small cat and her daughter Chewbacca was large for 4 month old so it was difficult to tell them apart. Yes the gift is a treasure.

  6. Great friendship for such a lovely gift. IT will warm your body and your heart. You are the example for all cats are gray in the dark. Maybe spaying them will reduce the numbers that you have! We all need to take on more tasks that we leave to our spouses and you have reminded me of that!

    1. TABOR, I do a lot of things these days that I was ready to take on before Ron died. It was good to pay attention and learn some tasks but I didn't want to light the furnace because the gas frightens me. Still I manage to do it and that's what counts. I am hoping to neuter all my cats so that I can keep these six and not have to worry about more litters.

  7. #1 So sweet of your friend to that for you.

#2 Sorry for Chewy, but glad for Mama David. I hate losing pets.

#3 Good for you. I can't imagine having to light a furnace in October in Florida, but I'm glad you were able to do it.

#4 Your vulture story makes me laugh.
When my daughters were little, we'd sit on the deck of our old house and talk. Our neighbors a couple of houses down had this dead tree in their yard and one day it was full of turkey vultures. I told my girls they'd better move otherwise the turkey vultures would get them.

    I'm so bad.

  8. Annie:

I am so sorry about Chewbacca but I can't help being overjoyed that our David is still among the living. You know she was always a favorite of mine.

The jacket your friend made is a beautiful color for you. It is very flattering with your coloring.

Funny about the pilot light. My son, Steve, was here yesterday and offered to light my pilot in the gas fireplace and when I told him I had already done it he said he was very proud of me. I was never very mechanical but have learned a lot of things since Roy passed away.

  22. I love when we do things we don't expect ourselves to be able to do. yay on lighting the pilot as the nights are getting really chilly now. It was only 35 here this morning! The color of the jacket suits you, Annie. And that is joyous that Mama David is alive, but Chewbacca is not.

Whenever I come across vultures, I have to admit I'm scared to see what they're after. Most recently, about six of them were harassing a red-tail hawk who had caught a rabbit. After a lot of squawking and fussing, the hawk deferred to the vultures and then a whole new battle began. The vultures were not into sharing.
