SUNDAY TALKING - 04-21-2024

Nine days ago my friend Frank fell off his horse.  He was found by me. My journey that morning was to deliver eggs and thankfully I was able to see him and get him to the ER.  I was shocked to see him sitting on a trailer with a bleeding head and barely able to move.  The ER did X-rays on every part of him and did a CT scan on his head. No other breaks but the ribs.

The following days we experienced three more trips to ERs because he had breathing concerns and had been warned of watching out for pneumonia plus he had terrible pain in his right shoulder and finally we found an Orthopedic doctor who gave him a steroid shot that began treating that pain immediately.

He is the 76 year old baby boy of his family and that left only me to care of him.  He fell on his left side breaking two ribs.  He hit his head and bruised his shoulders. Thankfully we only live ten minutes apart and I have been able to care for him, his three dogs,  the one horse and three mules. He has a good friend who checked on him also.  He brought his work crew to take care of the yard around the house. A few of his neighbors kept and eye on him as well.

Frank will have to miss the trail ride he had planned in four weeks.  Hopefully that will be all he has to miss because he is planning (and paid up for) a hunting trip to Alaska in 6 weeks.

THURSDAY DID YOU KNOW? -- 04-11-2024

Facts that make you wonder why people know that.

Eating boogers may boost immunity, scientist suspects

Parents, next time you see your child picking his or her nose you may want to fight the urge to scream "stop!". A Canadian biochemist is making waves with a new theory that picking your nose -- and eating it -- may be an evolutionarily-backed way to boost your immune system's protective powers.

And, he hopes to conduct a study to prove it, CBC News in Canada reports.

Scott Napper, an associate professor of biochemistry at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, told CTV News in Saskatoon that he proposed this theory one day while teaching a classroom full of bored college students.

He said almost all kids try to taste things that come out of their noses, and its possible nature is trying to push them to adopt this behavior.

"I got their attention by saying that's why snot tastes so sweet. And a lot of them were nodding along like they agreed, but not really realizing what they had acknowledged," he told the station, laughing.

SUNDAY TALKING - 03-17-2024

Happy St. Patrick's day 2024.

Happy Birthday to my big brother Jim.

This week my grandson Ryan and his dog Maverick came to visit me.

Yesterday my son Tandy came to visit me and to repair a hole in my shower stall.

Frank helped herd the chickens with me this week.

Plus we went to the Afton Swap Meet and got to see folks riding this camel.

This week I have tried to eat only soft foods.  My tooth hurts on the left side from dental work and on the right side from cracking a tooth from biting on something hard. See the dentist tomorrow.

Dallas Seavey won the 2024 IDITAROD.  This was his 6th win and it is historic.  Hooray for Dallas!

My favorites: Jessie Holmes placed 3rd.  Mille Prosild placed 7th.  Rookie Anna Hennessey placed 24th
